Swanton Morley House
Swanton Morley House is an impressive Norfolk wedding venue, a country house set in 10 acres of exquisite gardens. Originally part of the Bylaugh Estate, the house was significantly redesigned in 1854 by the notable Victorian architect Thomas Jeckyll and provides an idyllic backdrop for an elegant country house wedding. The layout of the gardens was established over one hundred years ago with the planting of many specimen trees, yew hedging and rhododendrons providing endless opportunities for stunning wedding photography.
The Wedding Venue
The wedding venue itself is within the former stable block and incorporates the ceremony room which can also be used as an evening “chill out” area with our comfy sofas, the bar room, the dance room, the outside bar area and surrounding gardens, a separate kitchen for catering staff, gents toilets and a boudoir room for ladies; surrounding a Mediterranean style courtyard. All of the rooms have recently been fitted out to a very high standard and feature double height ceilings and exposed oak beams.
The ceremony room provides seating space for up to 80 guests and has been decorated in a neutral palette allowing couples to add their own finishing touches.
The courtyard is covered by a bespoke centre poled marquee roof with the brickwork and climbing plants remaining exposed. Together with the beautiful limestone paving, the courtyard retains its Mediterranean feel creating the illusion of the warmth of summer all year round. The surrounding rooms all connect to the courtyard via french doors which allow the “spaces to flow” but also provide the flexibility to close off some of the rooms from the courtyard. It will comfortably seat 100 people plus and is the ideal spot for wedding receptions.
Whether you choose to have a string quartet on the deck under the lawson cypress, drinks on the main lawn in front of the ha-ha or simply enjoy lawn games and tennis then we are sure that the gardens will make your day special and memorable for everyone involved. We do not operate to a set plan which allows each wedding to be unique and personal to each couple.
